Founded January 2025
Burlingame Buddy Tutoring is a fully volunteer afterschool program uniquely founded, led, and fully managed by students, demonstrating a strong commitment to peer-driven academic support and leadership. Based in Burlingame, CA, we are dedicated to supporting local elementary schools that our tutors attended as kids.

Our Vision
Our mission is to enrich young minds through dedicated tutoring programs, with a goal to expand our positive impact to multiple schools in the future. We want to promote an environment that fosters long-term connections between tutors and students, creating a culture of collaboration, confidence, and curiosity that will have a lasting impact. We also want to allow high school students like ourselves to take initiative and be able to give back to their community while developing leadership skills.

Our Approach
We believe in a small-scale personalized approach to tutoring, which will create a safe and friendly environment that will allow our students to flourish. As a program, we are prepared to provide support in any subject or topic, with all of our tutors highly proficient and well-equipped to assist across a broad range of academic areas, coming with prior experience tutoring their peers at Burlingame High School. Our sessions are tailored to each student's pace and goals, whether it be preparing for a test, helping them create projects, or reinforcing classroom material and homework. Our small tutor-to-student ratio ensures no student feels left out or ignored, and that students can be matched with tutors to cater to their specific learning styles, personalities or academic needs.

Our Story
Roosevelt Program
The Roosevelt Program is the first initiative launched by Burlingame Buddy Tutoring, created in partnership with Roosevelt Elementary School. This program represents the heart of our mission: giving back to the schools that shaped us. As our pilot program, Roosevelt has set the foundation for future expansion and continues to inspire our team’s commitment to student-led, community-based education.

Burlingame Buddy Tutoring is led by a close-knit team of high school students who share a strong passion for education and service. Each member brings unique strengths and a commitment to creating a supportive, fun, and approachable experience for the students we mentor. We take pride in working together, learning from one another, and building a program that reflects our shared values and dedication.

Hi! I'm Sophia Yarmo and I am proud to be the founder of Buddy Tutoring. I have always had a passion for tutoring and I am very excited to make an impact. A quick fun fact about me is that my favorite subject in school is math!
